I don't use any glue. The plugs stay in because they are a tight fit. Any glue would simply be pushed to the bottom of the hole as they are driven in.

+1

Use the correct size plug cutter and they'll go in nice and tight, expand a little and be just as much trouble coming out as the old ones!

Place the cascamite on a board, pick up the pellet, place it in the glue & twist, place the pellet in the counter bored hole with the grain aligned & tap with a light hammer.
no glue is incorrect, some use varnish it the toe trail is varnished finish, then no glue line at all

You mean roll. Otherwise, perfectly acceptable as a procedure.

Using glue on a fibreglass boat might be acceptable, I wouldn't know. But this is how we do it on wooden vessels -- http://www.woodenboatfittings.com.au/articles/plugs-setting.pdf

Come to think of it, I wouldn't use glue anyway. Rubbing strakes are sacrificial and you can expect you (or some other poor bloke) is going have to remove the plugs eventually to repair or replace the strake. Why make the job needlessly more difficult?
