Hi all
I have bought a 27 1/2 foot Honeybee yacht that has been a bit neglected. It is currently in my yard on its trailer and I have been trying to strip down the paint (thank goodness for Nitromors). I am planning on taking it back to wood, giving it a good sand and inspecting every last inch.

I have found some white filler here and there under the 25 layers of paint and also the occasional bit of soft wood at a seam (only top 2mm where paint had prev cracked). It is mahogany carvel construction. Just wondered if anyone had tips on what is best to filler any defects. Also should i hoke out any soft wood and fill or is there any treatment that you would paint on?

I will have more questions later about paint, keel bolts, coachroof etc so be prepared;)

Thanks in advance for any tips

This is a "how long is a piece of string" type question.......

Repairs to wood boats are at best, rub down and fill, and at worst replace the wood. You will find lots of good advice on the Classic section here and I would suggest that you put your posts on that section in future.

Until then look here and start reading....... http://www.rotdoctor.com/boat/Bmain.html

Carvel usually has white putty in the seams which if your taking all the paint off would be wise to change..........but we will get to that.

Thanks Tom. Will give that site a going over. I have quite a lot of work to do this winter to be ready for next season. I have lots of old books on the subject but i was hoping there would be some up to date info. That site certainly looks to have some ideas to explore.
