There is a mixture many old fishing boats in wood and back in the 1980 s steel was used to build a fleet of boats to tend the shellfish industry, glass fiber has been popular in smaller faster twoman fishing and crabbing but wooden boatbuildingis still hanging on despite regulations from regional government making wooden boats more expensive to run like compulsory hauling out, according to recent documentary.Despite all ,wooden boats and associated festivals gaining ground celebrating “carpentaria de Rivera”. ..wooden boatbuilding. Many models with a bit of alteration would resemble the “Spray”......sorry no pics cannot manage without help!

I would love to see some pics as well. The yard in Norway where mine was built, Moen/Risør Trebåtbyggeri, is still going strong, plenty of new building of smaller local fishing craft, but they don't get orders for big trawlers any more.
The Risør 2, a historic Colin Archer gaff ketch lifeboat, is tied up at the local slipway.

One of the local small boats is called a “DORNER” which is in theory based of the Viking long boats that came this way on Viking expedition /raiding adventures, there are several local types coming from different Rias.

Sounds really interesting.
Have you ever been there yourself? What should we know before visiting this place?

Read in the local paper that there will be replica of John Paul Jones's raider Bonnehome Richard built in Brittany. Previously, the Duc de Duras, she was given to JPJ by the French to fight the British in the war of independance.
Much like the Hermione built in Rochefort, now doing the rounds.

You need a car and start in the rias Altas driving round the coast in and out the rias from Ribadeo along the coast, best in the Spring not too many tourists and weather good ,difficult to specify exactly where the little yards are, question of nosing about!
