Use polyester resin?
Use varnish?

I'd be a bit careful what product you use if I were you. CreoSote is only permitted to be used by The Trades in Australia

I am no expert so do your own research

Is Creocote dangerous?

Harmful: danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through inhalation. Vapour may irritate respiratory system or lungs. Ingestion Harmful if swallowed. Aspiration hazard if swallowed; harmful if liquid is aspirated into the lungs, may even prove fatal.

Is Cuprinol fence paint toxic?

H304 - May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. H412 - Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. P262 - Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. P301 + P310 + P331 - IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor.1 Nov 201

Polyethylene Glycol can be used as a wood preservative but NOT Ethylene Glycol

In controlled amounts, polyethylene glycol is not harmful if ingested and is an ingredient in laxative medications. Ethylene glycol, by contrast, is very toxic and is best known for its use in antifreeze and deicer solutions.2

Use to stabilize green wood to keep it from cracking, splitting and shrinking. Wood treated with Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) is ready for carving, shaping or machining. Polyethylene Glycol is dissolved in water. Wood is treated by submersing into the PEG/ water mix.
