I am going to look at a 1/4 tonner made out of 'wood/epoxy' in 1975. Could anyone shed any light on this material and give any tips on what to look for.

Regards

Brian

It means that the boat is built basically out of wood, much of which will likely be plywood, which is held together by epoxy resin. For hulls up to about 20ft long. this can be quite a satisfactory way of building a boat, but above that I would like to see some metal fastenings as well. It may include a number of coats of thin epoxy resin applied to the whole surface, outside and inside, to prevent the ingress of moisture and thus the establishment of rot. I'm hard put to think of anything to look for which is specific to epoxy resin building. Just be guided by the general condition of the boat. If the paint/varnish sparkles then it's been well-cared for, if it is shabby regard it with caution as you could be buying someone else's disaster.
Peter.
