Re: VOTE

Thanks Rick for organising it.
Yep - its worth another try at least.
The landlord seems a nice guy.

Just a thought.
I wonder if pepole would like to make the meeting more formal and arrange a "theme'd" half hour slot where we all get involved with a particular topic - could be something to do with navigation - mechanical issues - i'm sure we could come up with something. We joked about doing a soft eye in a braded rope when we met in the CI but that's the sort of thing I mean. Something that would only last about 30 mins. What do you think?

I once ran a computer club on this basis and it became quite popular - It grew to a membership of over 80 people - we HAD to find a bigger pub then.

Otherwise I, for one, would be quite happy to leave things informal as they are now - not much wrong with that - everyone seems to enjoy themselves.

Re: VOTE

Yes Mike I would enjoy WATCHING that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did do one once, took forever /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif and you think you can do it in half an hour /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I think the gauntlet has to be thrown /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: VOTE

Yes - I want to see the braid-on-braid eye splice done. Bring the kit and some warp then Mike and you can show off /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Jez - Yes, may be possible to get those sofas. I asked where they wanted us last night to be most convenient for them - but they seem pretty flexible. It may also be the area where they can turn the music down (which they did for us last night). I will ask next time I'm in there.

The landlord was apologetic about the food. Its normally pretty slow for them on Sunday->Wednesday which is why they just do the simple menu. On other nights they have a couple of chefs on and a 2 or 3 course menu (and thats all) - so if we revert to Thursdays, then we run into that issue too.

Sounds like we give'em another chance anyway.

Cheers,
Rick

Re: VOTE

OK then - I'll have to practice!!!

After all, I've now mastered Rick's special way of tyeing a bowline - thanks to Roger's persistance.

And now, seriously, do you think we should have an ongoing short formal session each time we meet?

I'll do the first one then - "The Soft Eye"
But what about the next one - maybe Col can tell us how an injector works - or something.

I dont think I'd be bored if Jez gave us a little presentation on the Westline - by then he might even have one.

There could be some non boaty things like "how to connect up to a WiFi service" - I know some of us have trouble.

Perhaps reports on cruises or a "suggested cruising area" evening.

Just thought that having a theme'd evening might be good - there seems to be plenty of room at "The Dog and Duck" for this kind of thing.

Could be organised through the posts in this forum.

Re: VOTE

I don't think you sold one to the lad collecting glasses though, sorry... It was a good try though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: VOTE

Sorry I couldn't vote as I was AWOL. The theme sounds good.

I volunteer to tie the bowline, sheetbend and clove hitch, don't even mind a bit of splicing but soft eyes? no chance!

Sorry to have missed the Westline presentation, they sound as easy a BMB's to sell! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hope to make it next time. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: VOTE

Not like anyone asked you questions about them
/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Happy to try the duck again (Ooo if duck was on the menu /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) as for themes and presentation type things... Think I'll watch /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You could always get C to do a web site critique for us. Would take up a couple of hours!

Re: VOTE

if a knot lesson is on the cards for next time, i'll drag Shelley down kicking and screaming, PLEASE can someone tell her that its just not right to tie fenders on to bow-rails with a knot that looks more like a bowl of spag'bol!!

We argure if i try teaching her something, apparently i'm not too patient, either that or too patronising!!!

PLEASE could someone show her a clove-hitch and a bow-line and tell her where they are best employed, pleeeease!!!!

:-)

Re: VOTE

Rick's got a great way of doing a bowline.
Just ask Roger - he's perfected it as well.
It allows you to get all the loops ready so that you can do the actual tie off very quickly - great if you need to quickly attach to a pile ring or similar - no rabbits through holes and round trees to think about!!

My SWMBO is good at clove hitches for fenders as well.

Anyway, I've contracted to do a soft eye - and thats going to take me all night!!! - might need to be lubricated with a few beers.
