You do not need a special tool, ordinary pliers will do, if you were to be doing 100's a day then it would be worth shelling out but not for just a handful.
They have been common in telecoms the world over for some good few years now - not so much for the ease with which the join is made but also because they are 'gas proof' - no more corrosion...
Also you can take them to bits and isolate the wires for testing / fault finding purposes.
Generally the bees knees and leave soldering, chocolate block etc. way behind.
