Wiring - joining small wires

IDC tool

You do not need a special tool, ordinary pliers will do, if you were to be doing 100's a day then it would be worth shelling out but not for just a handful.

They have been common in telecoms the world over for some good few years now - not so much for the ease with which the join is made but also because they are 'gas proof' - no more corrosion...
Also you can take them to bits and isolate the wires for testing / fault finding purposes.

Generally the bees knees and leave soldering, chocolate block etc. way behind.

Just had a quick read about these connectors which I've never heard of before. There seem to be dozens of different specs but most, maybe all, appear to be designed for solid (single) cored wires. Can anyone give the designation of the connectors they use? Can they be used on multistrand wires?
