Afternoon all,

Just installed a wind gen on a system that only had solar panels previously. I'm changing to a dedicated controller that'll look after both systems but have a wiring question please...... The controller has three available wires for the + input on the wind gen; one for each phase. The Rutland only has two wires, + and -. Do I wire it to just one of the phase wires or feed it in to all three?

TIA

Confusing talk there of "phases", , which implies unrectified AC, and + and - , which is DC.

What wind turbine do you have and what controller do you have.

Are you sure the controller and wind turbine are compatible.
The instructions for the controller should explain how to wire it.

It looks like the controller is designed for a wind turbine with a 3 phase AC output . Your Rutland has DC output.

Got a link to the EcoEnergy controller instructions ?

You need a Marlec HRSi controller, for a single battery instalation, or HRDi for dual batteries, for a Rutland 913

The wind gen is a Rutland 913 and controller an ecoenergy. It's designed for shore and marine use and for 12/24v. Here's the wiring diag:

Looks as though perhaps your controller has a 3phase a.c. input which is rectified to d.c. within, I think that it may be incompatible with the Rutland. The Rutland has rectifiers in the turbine unit so the output is d.c. What you have posted is a connection diagram, not wiring. Sorry for nit picking but it doesn't actually tell us very much.
I tried looking for more info but there is more than one company under Eco energy. Have you got a part No. for the controller?
Drat! vic got there first!

I'm not certain of this, but I was under the impression that Rutland wind generators only work with Rutland controllers, because of the control functions of the controller.

Apologies for slight hijack,

I have a Rutland 504 wired straight to 2x 110amp that gives me 24v engine start and then a 3rd 110amp house battery .

Should i have a controller on this or am i ok to use as is ?

TIA,
Richard.
