I am looking for a wireless chain counter.

To me this means a panel mount unit and a transmitter in the anchor locker so that I don't need to find a way to run a wire from the anchor locker to the flybridge.

I would think this was simple. Google and buy. But no ...

Most searches turn up a hand held unit that is wireless , not a panel mount.

There is a LewmAr aa570 but that seems not to be sold by anyone ! Even the lewmar website prices it a zero.

Does anyone know of a reasonably priced wireless chain counter ?

Thx

Does this do the job?

You will probably need to translate this page - right click page and select translate if using Chrome.

I think I know your problem.
So, why do you want a fixed panel mount when a wireless version could be hand held and used throughout the boat.
If that is the case and you would prefer a handheld option, this might do:-

Or this one by Lofrans is cheaper and made by the same people - just rebadged.

MZ seem to be the original manufacture - the manuals are all identical.

I fitted one of the Lofrans ones earlier this year - works well.
I fitted the receiver box next to our Lewmar relay box which is under the dressing table in our forward cabin.
The hand controller works from tge bathing platfirm so the wireless range is more than adequate.

Hope that helps

Thank you.

The unit looks good and is a fair price. They only ship to Italy so i have written to ask if they will sent it to Spain as it is £100 cheaper than anywhere else!

I prefer on the panel as it is just one less thing to rattle around the place and I cant really see why i would need to wander round the boat with it as i always anchor from the top helm.

Thanks again

Jeremy

J, I can't for the life of me think of any logic reason why they shouldn't deliver to Spain, but if they stick to their guns and you don't mind a bit of additional costs for the double shipment, I'm happy to buy it for you and send it wherever you wish.

I thought that but we have a curly wire in the anchor locker that operates the windlass - not deck switches.
I thought that a portable controller could be hung round my neck like the thruster remote giving instant control over the windlass.
Most of the time, we deploy and recover the anchor from the foredeck - easier to see the sandy spots or rocks etc.
The idea is that, in the usual case, I will be able to watch the chain counter on the remote whilst I'm on the FB and SWMBO uses the wired controller on the foredeck.
Alternatively, either of us could use the wireless remote from either the FB or the foredeck.
At the moment, SWMBO, counts the plastic chain markers to determine the depth - with a hand held controller, she can simply read the depth.
Essentially all options covered.

I remember last summer when I was single handing that I had to go forward to release the anchor tie (we tie our anchor down when it isn't deployed) and then go back to the FB to manouver the boat to its anchor position.
In those instances, I partly used the fixed switches on the FB and partly the curly wire switch on the foredeck.
The curly wire takes a little longer to get it out of the locker etc.
Now, with the wireless remote, hanging round my neck, I can operate the windlass anywhere.
I'm hoping that will make the single handed process easier.
