As I explained in #26 if the thermostat is removed the bypass is not closed as the engine warms up . Too much water can therefore flow through the bypass and not enough through the engine. The engine can then overheat.Tls for that ...
The Service manual says DAMAGE can occur running without thermostat ...... How ??
Surely the engine just runs cooler for longer ???
I appreciate that combustion may not be optimised being cooler ..... but I am willing to accept that for reduction of salts deposit ...
I thought it was well known .
Note the very low opening temperature quoted for the thermostat. This is to avoid the corrosion and scaling which would occur if the engine operated at the same temperature as the fresh water cooled version.
The diagram I posted in #26 came from the Service Manual so I don't know why you cannot find the same.
