Have had a wonderful summer going down the French canals but need to find somewhere to winter near Dijon. Anyone know of any boatyards in this area which could help?

A couple of places not that far from Dijon that I know pretty well. There is a marina at St Jean de Losne, where many people over-winter. Chandlery on site and a boatyard for haul outs, repairs etc - Blanquarts - next to the marina. Another marina at Seurre, where I keep my boat - usual facilities but no chandlery but cheaper. About £13 per week for my 10m boat. If you want to contact the capitainerie there I have a number.

Whats wrong with Dijon itself? I stayed there a couple of years ago and apart from the "push to shower" system was fine,The walk in to town will keep one fit!St jean de Lousne is pay pay pay now lots of Americans fitting out barges!!And brits or course!!!
I was shatterd at the change when i was there in my "gentelmans fishing boat" this spring!(6metersX 3.20 cuddie and sun awning ex Toulon fisher)

Where are you in Seurre? My "fisher" is not far from there in Besancon where a girlfreind has a mooring and i can slip her with a heater winter can be comfortable there mists fogs and woman to the rescue!!This way you never have to live on the dreadful land for long!!

In the marina or "port" as they like to refer it, rather grandly.
I've heard many uncomplimentary things said about St Jean but there are quite a few things going for it too. A sense of community with a daily radio net for a start and an English speaking harbour master and well stocked chandlery.

Personally, I much prefer Seurre - especially if you are planning to leave the boat for any legth of time. The harbour master walks around the pontoons every day checking ropes etc.

We tried staying on the boat during the winter but it was far too damp and cold with condensation an overwhelming problem.

For what it's worth, Saskia has wintered for the past five or six years at H2O at St Jean de Losne and I have no complaints. They winterize and dewinterize for me, do any odd jobs I require - keeping to agreed estimates - and the boat is generally clean and ready when I arrive, batteries charged etc. Cost? - well, cheaper than the Solent. St Jean has a few decent restaurants, adequate shops, English papers and a railway station.

St jean de losen is everything you say a very good town and near a village in the other dirction, lots of life and you can get anything done at a price! Blankarts changed my propeler shaft that is had a new one made for me to fit.

I was last staying for the year there in 1988 which is why i found it so changed from the way i remembered it not the least millions more boats!!!

I was so disapointed with my Atlantic cruise this summer next year id like to stay on the canals, with my sailing boat there stressfull but with a "heavy" manouverable boat with an inboard i really enjoyed my couple of short "potters" along the canalIve been offered a place in Grey which is also a nice busy town.

I wish time dident fly by so quickly and that winter rates would start now not in october!!
