Attempt on Cherbourg this weekeng ground to a halt! Left Hythe on schedule at 19:15 looked a bit murky but forecast good. Radioed cxoast guard who checked the channel sdtations said clear & no report of poor visibility. Crept down Solent to Hurst narrows under Radar. Decided wisdom was the better part when we could'nt see the Hurst light. Went into Lymington, just made the pub. Decided to cross in the morning, got up at 5:45am checked Navtex, gale warnings, went back to bed. Up at !0am beat all the way to Portsmouth against tide. Had a cornish pastie and tea bouncing on a buoy inside, then went back to Cowes, exciting stuff just outside Cowes when genoa wound itself and the furling would'nt work (30 knots of wind). Went to East Cowes. Then beat back to Hythe today in F4/5. Did'nt make Cherbourg but still had a cracking time.

Now you know I'm not the kind of guy to say I told you so ... but .... (actually I'm only jealous because my boat is out of the water until March. I dream of that boat like I used to dream of girls. Tempus fugit, it both cases!)

I didnt make it to Tescos for my French Beer. But there is always tomorrow

I went to Cowes last weekend, lunch stop in North Basin Marina pontoon for a 41ft was £6.00, half what I expected.

Thank god I wasn't invited.

Sounds like good seamanship to me -especially deciding not to continue. It can be a difficult call as you'll know. Fog is worse than storm force winds IMHO.

So what about the Nicola hitting the Tricolor?

Best wishes

Better to be in Lymington wishing you were halfway across the Channel, than being halfway across the Channel and wishing you were in Lymington!! Sorry again about the late phone call - thought you'd be well on the way....actually, it did sound as if you were...........!!

sounds like a good call mate
sory your trip was cancelled tho
still that is the joys of winter
stil sometimes it is more satisfying to be in the pub looking at the boat than vice versa

This isn't an office, its hell with strip lighting
