I am acquiring a 24 foot boat on a trailer. I will be storing it at a caravan storage depot under trees. What is the best /cheapest form of winter cover?

Best possibly is to get a cover ( ( just a rectangle of an appropriate size will do) made from the reinforced PVC material they use for covers on lorries. I squeezed nearly 20 years use out of one of those. Being heavy it does not flap about in the wind so much as lighter covers do. Gets stiff with age and in cold weather though

The heaviest weight of polytarp from Bradshaws, aka Tarpaulins Direct, should give you several years ... got a couple of those on my boat at the moment. They wont last another year though.

The lightest weight stuff works out more expensive because it only last a few months.

Not a bad idea to use two that overlap a bit around about the companionway as it makes access easier

Yes, a lorry tarp would be ideal and will give you free body building when lifting it on and off! Just thought , as you didn't say whay style of boat, one of the most important things is to cover it so that water cannot pool on the top. Some people put plastic pipes into the stanchion bases to make hoop s under the cover to shed water, others put an eyelet in the centre and a spiked pole under it to maintain a slop (like a tent). If water does pool, the weight may destroy a light tarp and can be guaranteed to go all over you when you try to gain access - ask me how I know...

Several peeps in our marina have started to use Caravan covers, they fit remarably well. About a £100 I think.
