I don't see many out on the water threads these days so thought I' try and change that.

I take the boat out every few weeks, mostly to keep the engines happy.
We've had between -8 to -13C for the last week or so and this makes for some unexpected challenges.
Today I could not get the mooring lines off, they were frozen really stiff, a bit like a wooden stick. Fixed it by getting a 2 kwh hot air pistol (the kind you use to get paint off) and spent 30 mins melting the ice in the ropes!!

When I came back there was a large buildup of ice on the hull and on the bathing platform, The boat started to look like its been through some ruff stuff :) A bit more wind and waves and I would have gotten ice building up on deck.

OK I won't start a new thread, but I was out last week on Lough Corrib, West of Ireland....

Clocked up another 50 miles today, excellent weather. Went for a spot of lunch at Lisloughrey Lodge

Was frozen in Chichester marina again today, boat covered in and and water frozen again.

SWMBO didn't want to go out for long, so out for about an hour! :-)

That's incredible dedication to the cause..........good on you!

Looking good. I popped down to the boat last weekend to check everything was ok. The boat is safely tucked up in a warm warehouse, which is nice as it was - 30 C outside. Everything outside is frozen stiff. I'll post a few pics later once I get them downloaded from my camera.

Your pics suggest that you went pretty close to the ice? Fresh ice can play havoc with the gelcoat, no damage I hope?

I can imagine the inner parts of Finland being very cold, -30 is really cold!!

I tried pushing through the ice for a bit and it has not gotten really solid yet, a bit mushy still so no problem with the boat.

I typically store the boat inside every second year and so far I've been lucky in that the winters that the boat has been in the water has been very mild. Seems I am out of luck this year:)
