Head for Lavrion - just round cape Fonais. Possibly the best layup yard in Greece. The telephone number was 0292-27701. It has got everything including cafe, chandlers and experts in most things - stainless - engineering etc.
Sunsail haul around 400 yachts there each winter.
It is not expensive.
A short walk into the village from where you can get a bus to Athens Airports.
About 1 1/2 hours I think it was

Lavrion's not suitable for laying up afloat, although you could use the (very expensive) Olympic marina a mile or so south.

Otherwise - afloat - moorings in Porto Heli, Methana, moorings in Poros (friendly place!), or any of the rather expensive Athens marinas which have space - and slight security issues in some of them.

Further afield can be a lot more satisfying. I often recommend Kalamata - 4 hours by bus from Athens, but a very good spot, good value and no sescurity problems.

[/ QUOTE ] It is possible to lay up afloat there but not many berths.. It is arguably the best place in Greece to lay up ashore. Very modest prices, superb workshops and engineers... It is not by chance that Sunsail lay up most of their East Med fleet there.. excellent communications... The very best I found for security and wintering a boat. Managed by an experienced German company.

Completely agree with you about the layup ashore facilities in Lavrion. They are excellent.

Where would you layup afloat? Stern to the E-W quay in the north of the harbour? Or alongside the quay joining it to the shore? I wasn't aware of any tailed moorings on these quays, but things do change! Have some been laid?

For I wouldn't like to lie to my own anchors untended for a few days in any Greek harbour - too much chance of them being lifted by a departing vessel!

Have not laid up there ( Lavrion) but stayed a few days in June en route to Turkey and was quite impressed , not spectacular but large safe harbour plenty of local shops couple of chandleries ,much prefer it to the noise and bustle of the Athens marinas. Also only 20mins away from the new Athens airport which is a huge plus if intending to visit in or out of the season.

I think you and Maichael_E are talking about different places. I feel sure Michael_E is referring to Olympic Marine Yard whilst you are referring to the town port of Lavrion.
Olympic does have a small marina but their main operation is the huge dry-stand area and the workshops which can cater to almost anything. They used to make GRP yachts there some years ago and currently do a lot of the Greek coast guard and customs boat repairs.
Lavrion port has a wall/jetty for visiting/recreational boats and is close to the town but I agree with you that it is not the place to leave a boat for any extended time. Actually I doubt the port police would allow it anyway, it is a busy ferry port and they have a significant presence there.

You're right. Confusion on my part actually. I'd docked in Lavrion, and walked down to the Olympic yard (didn't realise it was called that!) and was very impressed with the facility but noted that there were no suitable afloat wintering berths in the town harbour.

A few years later I went into the Olympic marina to re-fuel. The marina was so posh and isolated with security fencing (and expensive) that I didn't link it with the yard or with Lavrion and assumed it was a completely different entity. I'm still not sure where you'd lay up afloat outside the Olympic marina though.
