There is nothing like planning ahead so here goes......

We have come to the time in our lives where the kids have gone and we are thinking about spending 3 months out of the UK somewhere warm between early Jan & March 2016. Both of us have jobs that would enable us to spend this sort of time away without any problems. We have not settled on an area or even a country yet but probably Mediterranean, maybe Spain or Portugal. Wherever we go will be close to the water and I am keen to have a boat involved in some way. I have looked at some of the charter places and it seems that we would have to spend 2000Euro/week -ish on a live-aboard boat which is definitely going to be a stretch. The other option is to rent an apartment/villa and a find run-about boat rather than a live-aboard but I have had no luck in finding anything like this.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Hi Rich,
Plan sounds great...good luck to you both.

FWIW, my choice would be Florida, Gulf coast, maybe Tarpon or Dunedin.

You'll easily find a house and pontoon boat for way < $2000 per week, especially if you take a 1 or 2 bedroom condo.

I used to have a property on a bayou with Gulf access and a pontoon for my 23' bow rider, in Tarpon...you'll have boating weather every day, and the place will be open and full of life!

Probably not what you are considering but just my tuppence worth.

Enjoy planning!

Why not push the boat out (no pun intended) and head for Thailand?

Lovely scenery, blue crystal waters, plenty of opportunity to spend full days on speedboats (40ft with 3 x 200 hp outboards) for about £25 per person (inc lunch). Lots of snorkelling / diving etc. too.
Will be cheaper than Europe, and economy flights can be gotten for good money (Although, I strongly suggest flying business as it's 2 x 8 hours, if your budget allows. When we do this flight, I drink enough wine to balance out the extra cost :D)

Then, head up north Thailand and explore rural Thai life, green lush mountains, waterfalls etc...

We do this for 1 month each winter and love it :) (Although we're happy to move on to another country now that we've extensively explored Thailand)
