As Peter Cook would classify a “mighty wind” raged about the house early this morning causing a brief power cut.Certainly the worse wind I have heard on land ,thought something was going to blow away but it’s gone still now thank god …I worry for the very old roof tiles!

I think it was Charles Dickens who wrote about the embarrassment felt by a man chasing his hat that had blown off.

That's nothing compared to that which must have been felt by the man who I saw years ago chasing his wig.

Still, he had more courage than I.

I would have pretended it wasn't mine, and walked briskly away in the opposite direction.

My hand made Panama blew off whilst dinghy sailing. By the time I had come out it had blown off away in the distance….

I rarely practised man-overboard drill.

Attempting to recover hats that had blown overside gave me practise.

Probably not enough, since they almost always succumbed to the waves before I reached them.
