What is the current thinking on the best website for wind prediction. Met office is showing 8 mph for local area but a strong wind warning in place so I need something better.
Thanks
Martin

I can see no warnings for the Wetherby area during the next 5 days on the Met office website!

PassageWeather is giving around 25 kn tomorrow, Friday, morning off the NE coast. I like its display and can form conclusions about crossing eg N Sea.

+1 for Windfinder, but Weatheroutlook.com also very good, and provides a 16 day forecast too.

Like many of us, I routinely keep searching until I find the forecast I want !

Many thanks for the links. I defiantely like windfinder. The boat is currently at Glasson Dock and based on the forecast my current plan is to depart at lunchtime on Sunday and arrive Liverpool about 2300 that night. Later in the week we are heading for N Wales.

Most of the links quoted are either direct from the GFS or derived from the GFS. There will be little to choose between them. Use whichever presentation you like best. My personal choice is to use zyGrib with the GFS data at 0.25 degree spacing.

Genuine alternatives for those on the east coast can be found from the Danish Met service. Elsewhere around Europe see http://weather.mailasail.com/Franks-Weather/Grib-And-Objective-Forecasts-Reviewed.

But, whatever you do always pay heed to the GNDSS forecasts – Inshore waters or whatever. These have human input. Use any purely objective forecasts whether from the Met Office, Météo France or a private firm such as MeteoConsukt etc with care. They will often underestimate wind and over predict visibility. On one occasion, MeteoConsult was saying good visibility. Météo France was saying – correctly – 50 metres.
