Wind indicator on VHF antenna ...

A better fix than filing a flat is to either put a dimple in the tube with a centre punch or drill a pilot hole.

Mark the location using a pencil lead through the screw hole.

How ? The V mount plastic sits direct onto the antenna metal whip itself halfway up. There is no tube ... apart from the silly plastic bit that is the problem ...

Seeing the Metz .... I could easily modify the Vtronix I have ... for zero cost.

I never thought of moving the dead band indicators down to the mount. Tks for the piccies ...
If you move down but not the wind indicator the angle of viewing will matter

I've had a V-
I would replace your complete Aerial with a Metz combined with the add on indicator.

Simple reason it is a far better design and your V tronix with Hawke is doomed to fail!

The Metz does look good, but I've had Hawk V-tronics on two boats for years without problems. I particularly like the positive provision for narrower or wider 'close-hauled' angle.

Fred drift alert! I had a non-Hawk wind indicator bashed out of line during mast raising (or had it been deliberately vandalised by nasty boatyard neighbour?), and only discovered as we were about to launch with tight tidal window. There was only one boatyard hand in attendance at the time, so the First Mate bravely volunteered to be lifted in the yard's improvised 'cherry picker' to fix it:

I should point out Metz doesn't make wind indicators. The one shown is the WindexAV made by Davis in USA. I prefer not to see an antenna encumbered by anything - flags or wind indicators. A standoff bracket will take the antenna clear of the pointer on a Windex located on the centre line of the mast.

The top part of the antenna is a stainless steel rod about 2.5mm diameter. The plastic V mount is slid down this (after removing the knob at the top) and sits on top of the lower part of the antenna. This is an aluminium tube.

I've gone and braved the weather ...

My Antenna and Wind indicator is definitely NOT same as any depicted on this thread.

My whip antenna is a solid whip from base coil to tip, no metal tube at all.

The wind attachment is made up of a short 10cm plastic tube over the whip and sits on top of the base coil. Then the V bars fitting that is in two angle versions ... this by the screw locks to the whip sitting on top of the short plastic tube. The arrow pointer clips on top of that ... but free to revolve.

If I remember rightly this was bought from a famous Online Marine Store in UK and is same as the one I fitted to my previous boat bought in a local marine chandlers. Its similar to the V Tronics but the wind part is only about 10cms up from the vase coil ... not halfway up the whip.

This basically means that moving the V rods down will not introduce any parallax / alignment issue being slightly lower than the arrow.

Here is more representative of mine :
