I have just bought a boat with a greenergy star Phoenix 550w wind turbine. Whist the item is only a year old,it does not charge the batteries. Whilst I was removing it from the boat I discovered that it has three feed wires,Red Blue and black. The red was however conected to the negative terminal on the batteries and the black to the positive?. ( at the battery end it was the red to positive and black to negative as the cables had been joined wrong inside the support tube and was only discovered upon removal.
I woud be grateful if anyone can advise of the correct connections. The red I presume is positive but what about the black and blue.
I would like to sell it but need to check whether it is working when connected correctly. Have tried emailing the manufacturer but with no response.
Cheers all

If it is the same as mine (and the wires certainly are) the output of your generator is 3 phase ac and you need a rectifier/transformer to convert the output to 13.4v so it can charge your batteries. These are sold on ebay for around £50.

Thanks the advice. Yes I also googled it but still a bit confused as it does not mention a rectifier. The instruction leaflet does not mention it either and states "connect positive and negative cables to the battery" .There is also a picture with turbine and battery connected direct. The specification table also has output voltage at 12vdc, so that would suggest direct connection to battery. But why three cables ????

Cheers
