I have some old Tuuf Fittings ENGLAND winches made from Tuufnel on my Hurley 22.

The large washer that sits on the top of the winch has been lost on both the winches.

Someone has previously put a flat tap washer on it. Unfortunately this arrangement did not work and when sailing the large central countersunk head bolt would work loose.

Has anyone had a similar problem, or recommend a Fix ?
Are spares stil available ?

I have looked everywhere for a replacement "washer" that would accomodate a countersunk head.

I dont think switching to a pan head Bolt would work.

Thanks in anticipation Nick

I think my Barton winches are like that. They are glass filled nylon not Tufnol but I am pretty sure the screw that holds the whole thing together is countersunk and fits through a large thick countersunk washer. Stainless steel or maybe plated brass.

I cannot see why a plain washer and a pan head screw would not do. The modern Barton snubbing wiches (they dont seem to make the bottom handle ones like mine now) do infact have a pan head screw in the top.

You'd need a "penny washer " though but I think you'd be able to get something from a2a4 Search for pennywashers
Or are you thinking that the original washers were Tufnol also.

Good link that . Duly noted. The Tufnol sheet is not as expensive as I thought. In fact the general purpose grade is dirt cheap
