Win 10 upgrade

.... into a little Samsung N130 Notebook c/w an Atom processor and 2 Gb RAM? Has anyone managed that without cyclical depression and fits of breaking things?
This journey started here, earlier in December and I'm hoping someone will know and be able to encourage this 'geekery'.

It IS boaty-related, as I have the device and want to make use of it on board with MemoryMap or similar charting..... as well as some other tasks such as weather stuff and storing some boat docs and manuals.
 
Why push to its limits ? I have an Acer One that has Win 7 Starter / SP1 and its fine ....

I have an Acer high end machine with Win 10 Home edition on it and it drives me nuts .... W10 Home has ended its support and each week - the PC keeps dropping into upgrade mode and trying to install version 1903 ..... it locks up for about 4 - 5 hours and then rejects install and takes another 1 - 2 hours reverting back to working condition. My other Lenovo on Win10 Enterprise has still support .... but will do same when that runs out.
 
I think the Windows Update process is completely broken. I have two, or maybe three, W10 devices that won't update. As refueler says they take hours to do the update and then come up with some fatuous message like 'a component couldn't be reconfigured'. I'm seriously thinking Linux would be a better bet for my boat gear ... ...
 
It s quite possible as I have WIn 10 ( a licenced copy) running on a Samsung N145 notebook with 2 Gb ram.
Don't remember how I upgraded it but don't remember it to be difficult.I've done 3 .I imagine it was done when the free upgrade was available so it would have been automated.
As said above it doesn't seem a vital upgrade for what you want to do.
I now run a Samsung tablet (brilliant) with boat stuff but on the notebook I have Open CPn running with a cropped Uk and near continent CM93 directory,plus the complete Zealand inland waterways 2017 download,etc etc. and Seaclear.I found that a wireless mouse made things far easier.

Fair points, all. Of the genre 'If ain't broke, don't fixit!'

I do have a Samsung Tab A, and I concur that it's brilliant, but I do want to get some use out of the Samsung Notebook as well. I'll leave the Win10 business to one side and mull over inserting an SSD...... but again, 'if it ain't broke......'
 
I had a Samsung NC10 on the boat, which my son upgraded. 128gB SSD, 2 gB ram and 32 bit Win10. Worked well but the processor is slow by current standards.

Windows 10 update is free,but not easy (In my opinion),but one might think it's not difficult at all,finally,make a backup of your computer's data.

It sounds as if you don't know much about it.The first time I upgraded Win 7 to Win 10 was on my cousin's computer, and I did it. The last time I did it was 9 months ago on my Win7 computer (I failed once before I succeeded, ).I can definitely say it's free.

Are you quite sure of that? My copy of W10 Home is still updating on a regular basis. W7 support ends on 14 January 2020.

It keeps telling me that support ended Nov 2019 and it tries to update to 1903 ...

I was reading an article couple of days ago that said this update is flawed and MS has refused to stop it going out ... is only issuing odd small bug fixes instead of fixing it ...

Well I think Win 10 is an absolute disaster - a disgrace.

I've a good mind to switch to Linux: I'll certainly research it.

But when yuou say SSD do you mean internal or external? It used to be that external was much slower because of the USB speed (2.0?) but now there is a much faster USB (3,1) speed so apparently external SSDs can be as fast as internal SSDs

Agreed, I used to wait for the first Service Pack was issued before I upgraded, but the W10 policy was not to use SP's but Microsoft (finally) delivers service pack-like Windows 10 1909 suggests a change of heart.
I'm quite happy with W7and will probably stick with it on my current PC's until it goes the way of W95 :giggle:
