Bacon, sausages eggs and beans have been our consolation.

We set off this morning but it was 'orrible. Windier than expected and a big sea state. Did we want 24 hours of that? No we didn't. Back in Seaport - let it all calm down.

Note for users of Seaport Marina: Visitors are directed to anywhere on M pontoon. So you go along aside not far from the entrance. You then discover that it is a 1/4 mile walk to the loos :( M pontoon is this longest pontoon in pontoon land so follow it round in a U shape and take a finger berth near the loos:)

Skipper got cabin fever early and after a nap he is bored and like an arse with a sore bear.

In his own words, Ijmuiden is thus described as like Jaywick in February, without the charm.

It is as devoid and empty as one can imagine, we just saw some happy campers trudging toward the bus out of here.
The marina is 2/3rds empty, but the business plan is to keep the rates as high as possible to avoid any probability of it filling again, and ruining the view over the Industrial landscape that the happy beach hut owners get to look at.
LS Lowry would have loved it here, and could have daubed endless artworks.
Same goes for the restaurants and bars surrounding the place. Silly prices, no one here to avail themselves of the bargains not to be had.
Even the Nautor Swan shop, whilst advertising v v expensive boats has weeds growing and blowing on its front patio. Shop windows are grimy too.
This palce also has the longest visitors pontoon in the woprld, and the loos are an extra 100m past the pontoon exit. A bit of a marathon, hope you don't have an episode on the way.
On reentry this morning we moved much much closer to the loos.

The weather has eased a tad from the F6 /White horses at the entrance this morning, but the promised lower wind speeds have only marginally dropped, and the wave heights as viewed from the magnificent architectural roadsmash that is Ijmuiden Jolly SeaFront are still crashing onto the outer moles. We view this with a rictus grin, knowing that tomorrow may not be any better.
Coupled with the leaden sky and the Skipper Mal de Humeur, it is not shaping up for a great day.

So we have decided to go to the supermarket .The guy who runs it is really nice and chatty. As well he might, as ware probably the only humans he has seen today. So, we have some beer, and have perversely come to a culinary conclusion.
If it is going to be that awful, we are going to cook up the ships ration Fray Bentos. I have potatoes, but fresh preprepared, which don't really count, as we all know that FB pies by tradition are served with cheapest tinned potatoes, and mixed carrots/peas. We bought a jar of peas. Should taste suitably awful.

We are now sat here with our first beer, and contemplating the consumption of a gallon of Chateau CatsPee 2013.

We are certain that Ijmuidens attractions will not hold us for another day, so we look forward to heading around 247 True to get to Harwich sometime on Saturday.

If it's any consolation the local barometer reading here has gone from fart in a tea cup around lunchtime to wind in the willows with imminent wet vindaloo last night setting in. This, after things looked good with an outlook of the odd botty burp interspersed with shining rear end means, well, we'll have some weather. Just nobody can tell what it's going to be. Parp

That's really good. Had you thought of a new career based in Exeter?

I leave the serious forecasting to those with the looks, smile and boobs to distract most listeners to the point where nobody cares what the forecast was, as long as those reading it have the appeal so what they said doesn't matter. Or Guapa, of course, though a full Guapacast these days can be rather expensive, though well worth it

In the absence of a branch of The Samaritans in Seaport Marina we could stay no longer. The forecast remained grim so we went back into the canals and are working our way south in calm water and winds. The plan is get to the Hook of Holland by tomorrow evening and go for it from there.

Jim has found today instructive. Tea has not been spilled and country side has been enjoyed.

even Dutch food isnt this bad

I think your comparison of IJmuiden and Jaywick was unfair: Jaywick does not have ferries and pilot boats buzzing you at 20 kts, it doesn't have a cement works you can see from 20 miles out to sea, and the inhabitants of IJmuiden speak perfect English!
