Will harbour commissioners share the credit crunch pain?

I would hope that the various harbour commissioners along the coast will be very aware of our economic woes and think of some decent enticements to get us all to keep going to their respective locations this coming season. So, rather than banging on the hull side and demanding £20 for the buoy for the night or £10 to drop the hook what about some "3 for the price of 2" offers or something similar. Has anybody heard of any location making such offers? Without such enticements I think this will be the summer of using the hook only and being self sufficient and passing no money at all to the harbour authorities and the attendant shoreside facilities. I think that if I owned a pub or a restaurant in these places I'd be lobbying the harbourmaster now to make sure that the yotties keep coming this year of all years.

I see Fowey Harbour commissioners are making a start here:

http://www.foweyharbour.co.uk/chargesleisure.htm

with a "stay three in August and get one free in September" - which is a start but I'd hope that it could be pay for two and get three in any month.

Overnight visitor fees for Harbour Authority berths on the Hamble were reduced by between 12.5 and 16% at the same time as the VAT rate was reduced by just 2.5 percentage points. And you can still get 7 nights for the price of 6 - not quite BOGOF, but better than nothing. Free electricity on the Warsash jetty as well.

Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity.

Only place I know you have to pay to anchor is the "voluntary" (like national service) - charge in places like Newtown Creek which are reserves and run by the charity's...
or Beaulieu which is private and a rule un to it's own including fishing rights!

not aware there's any HA charge to anchor in the Solent...

Back on track - would be nice but can't see it happening in Yarmouth/Lymington/Cowes etc... much more likely in teh MDL/Premiers which are a bit more set up for it.

Not if Duver Marina at Bembridge Harbour is anything to go by!

Last week it was £40 for 1 night (38ft boat) before Easter and that was reduced because we were on a club rally. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Checked Shotley for a one night stay in middle April - before most boats are in - £30 for a night for a 27 footer. Voted with me keels.

Ouch, the little beach next to the entrance could be busy this year then.

There are commissioners fees to pay in Chichester harbour if you anchor and I believe also in Dartmouth and Salcombe.

Sorry must read all of the thread befor jumping in with boat feet, however I do find it anoying to be charged for anchoring in what is my usual first port on return to home waters, often being woken after arriving in the early hours, the last time with a mini questionair as to the services being offered.

I'm guessing that West Country harbours might do very well this season.
I know several people who would normally be in France but due to the poor exchage rate are planning a home waters cruise this year
