Will anyone be around this weekend !!!!

I cannot take it anymore, all this snow and how inadequate this country is at planning, so I have a plan. I have bought a “new to me” boat, a Duellist 32, and am desperate to go and play in the relative safety of the Blackwater this Saturday and Sunday. Yes I know it is COLD but it’s either going out on the boat or championship trials sidecar practice and SWTSIIC has given me the thumbs up !!!!! so this is the plan :- slip Tollesbury marina at 9 am and motor out to the Nass beacon do a few passes up and down the Blackwater in the deep channel to get the feel of the boat and to inspire a little trust in boat, skipper and crew. Then put the main up, reef well down and continue up and down, and with confidence building roll a bit of Genoa out and keep on enjoying things until it is time to go into Bradwell Marina for a berth for a night and then up to the pub for a well earned malt(no ice)and a few pints and perhaps even a small piece of cow , socialize , sleep. In the morning slip Bradwell marina for about 9.30am for a bit of a sail and then into Tollesbury to be over the sill for 11am. The boat draws 1.2m or 3’8” in old money with the keel lifted. What is the procedure in coming into Bradwell and who should I contact? Where do I pay and ill there be anyone about? If there is anyone who would like to join me let me know or if any of you would like to give any advice other than “stay in the warm” it would be appreciated. I have studied the charts for too long and really do want to find out what is out there. Andy

Hi Duelin,
if you can get from Ely to Tollesbury th /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gifrough the snow, I have just had to cancel a weekend in the Solent.
Would be delighted to help you out as crew, and I know the waters well enough (but havent been out of Tollesbury for 15 years. The Green Man at Bradwell is well known. Ahem.

People hereabouts could vouch for me one way or the other.

let me know.

just ch 80 coming into Bradwell..... on approach, and they'll allocate you a berth... pay in the control tower once settled in (looks like half a lighthouse!)

No sailing for us this weekend..... too brrrr!

Envy you a warming whisky in the Green Man after a cold days sailing though..... I can close my eyes and see me sat by the fire warming my bones right now.....

But look forward to seeing you out and about this season.

I'm getting worried /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif think maybe we should do another photo thread so you remember who we all are again /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Will anyone be around this weekend !!!!

Jim knows his way to the Green Man from anywhere - rumour has it he can sail too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

LW Bradwell is 1503 so allow 3 hours on the falling tide or 2.5hrs on the rising tide. Remember that you will lose 3 feet from the height shown on the tidal gauge on the North Cardinal post at the start of the creek. Once you are passed the third can then there will be plenty of water in the marina.

They are dredging the marina at the mo and western side of A pontoon is out of use and those of us who berth there are shifted on to B pontoon. They'll fit you in CH80 or 01621 776235.

I'm trying to drive to Wales tomorrow /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Edit: I see that a Duellist is a lift keet/ shallow draft so my time is a bit excessive.

Re: Will anyone be around this weekend !!!!

Assuming the weather doesn't put paid to my plans we would love to have you aboard Jim. I will PM you.

Thanks for the advice Moody Sabre. I prefer to err on the side of caution. Yes, Duellist is a lifting keel, or at least it will be when SWTSIIC winds the handle 18 turns (otherwise we will be mole draining the Blackwater as we will be drawing over 6'!!)

Matters not a jot to me. I shall be Crew and obey the Skipper. Or failing that SWTSIIC. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Blimey, a shadowy figure appears out of the dim past... How the devil are you, and have you plunged into ownership yet?

Wrist not mended, but in a restraining device provided free by NHS. Nothing that stops me opening bottles.

Re: Will anyone be around this weekend !!!!

The trip south started in heavy snow but I have arrived safely so it's all systems go for tomorrow.

I am looking forward to some fun with Jim as my crew. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

(as dictated to SWKSIIC)

Jim,

Still lurking around these parts keeping an eye on the goings on from time to time !!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
No purchase, have been tempted several times, but thinking about the need to get sometime on the water before the last gasp /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Take care tomorrow, favour the good wrist and keep warm.
