Will a good name help sell your boat?

For instance; Nick's boat name Moondance conjours a romantic image suited to sailing whereas my friends solid sea going fishing boat named Skylark hardly suggests a serious fishing boat and more of a cartoon / picture postcard, dead calm and sunny summers day pleasure boat.

So, do you think a good choice of name would put your boat higher up a buyers list of viewings?
 
Of course Moondance is appropriate.

When performing the moondance, Jacko appears to be making forward motion but is in fact going backwards.

A good question.

In the name of research, I suggested to the wife, that we rename our old boat to "Dogturd" to see its effects on potential purchasers.

It can not make the lousy offers any worse!

Well, as I'm currently shopping around for a boat I can answer this with an emphatic <font color="red">NO</font>. Of all the boats I've looked at so far I can't remember the name of any of them! In fact, in our list of requirements, "having a good name" probably comes below "must have osmosis"............ /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

25 years from now I will be able to advertise my boat as "Bavaria 'Perfect Match' 35 for sale." whatever the condition.
 
My kids are adamant that we buy an HR 29 because it is called 'Swallow' so presumably it does make a difference - but only if your 8 years old and aren't signing the cheque!

Although I have to admit that I have rejected more than one on the basis that I simply couldn't be assocaited with the name!

Seems not. Apparently Posiedon (or Neptune, depending on your choice of deity) understands that a new owner will want to change the name. He (she??) only gets annoyed when an existing owner changes the name. See, it's all very simple when you understand it.............

Sometimes the name gives an idea of the mental age of the owner. Then you start wondering how good a four year old is at maintenance.......
 
But the name could ...

lead you to wonder about the reason for it ....

What was that US Congressmans boat-name ..... "Monkey Business" ?

Some names are plain comical, others just impossible ... some don't actually mean what they appear to ......

Still life's a gas - and we all have our own ways ...
 
If I'd believed that I wouldn't have bought any of my last 3 boats (Miss Noma, Manglewurzel II and Ron-Linda). So far Caprera, Zalophus and Cygnus all still floating but fingers crossed at all times).
