Yes it is limiting that's for sure. In fact the Clare can't load full height HGVs at any time due to the presence of the mezzanine even in its stowed position. Anything bigger than a medium sized van can only be booked one of the other vessels but she can shift a lot of other traffic.

Max height hgvs might have trouble, but she’s got at least 6m under the retracted deck, and it’s about 0.3 m thick. Doesn’t make much odds to loading does it?

What seems unknown is why they put the cars to such numbers on this mezz deck (not the top one) when it cannot take the weight and cars cannot unload -it didn’t seem based on crew activity an unusual situation after we had sat trappedfor 20mins but it puzzled me as to whether such loading was actually safe .

Ah the infamous “misery deck” as it’s known up here. Getting put up there means you’ll be last off and and behind all the camper vans and hgvs for the wacky races out of Ullapool
