I'm only managing to connect at GPRS speeds, (56kbps), via my phone, (Nokia N95), at the end of pontoon 1, (closest to the lock), which may be as good as it gets?

Has anybody managed to get a wifi or a 3G, connection in Glasson, or are we stuck with slow speeds?

Little Ship? hlb? anyone?

Cheers

Richard

We were in Glasson for about three weeks, 3 worked fine, well as good a conection as we've ever had, but thats not saying alot. TV worked better than any where else, soon to be foilled by digital.

Dunno about wifi as we have 3.

I have found the Three maps very accurate for performance so no reason to doubt them, but...

You can use your phone and search for available networks when you are at your boat and see if you are picking up the Three 3G network, so you can be sure it will work.

And as you can read, others have got it working.

I have found using a usb extension lead helps with getting a good signal.

As far as I remember, 3 worked well at Glasson, but it's a bit iffy at home near Preston. It's sort of up and down, cant get broadband, so it's best we got.

The conection goes up and down, suppose it's time of day. Thing I dont understand is, I can get Utube stuff, but conection here is awfull.

Currently using t-mobile.

Why do you suggest 3?

Can you be sure they have a 3G signal in Glasson, (not sure I would trust their maps, would rather hear from those who have 1st hand experience).

Because 3 have much wider 3G coverage than any other provider, mainly because they only have 3G coverage. But overall their coverage is worse than other providers for making calls.

Thanks for the replies - looking into the various 3 offers - the Mifi version looks like it might be possible to get the dongle outside, (subject to a waterproof box of some kind),, and log on wirelessly from anywhere on the boat.

Having said that, I've transferred my sim to a Nokia 5800 and am getting a sporadic 3.5G signal, so I may look at one of those gizmos that attach to the phone by velcro with a wire to an external aerial.
