Wichard quick release shackles on spinnaker halyards

I guess I've been lucky - I've been using my asym about 100 days a year for 7 years now and about the same on my old boat for 6 years and never had the halyard go where I don't want it and would certainly never pull my halyard too far up that it goes in to a sheave - I have a dyneema sleeve in black (on a white halyard) for 1m above the end so I can see exactly when the black disappears in to the mast and that's the right height to fly the kite.
I'm unsure on why one would, by design, have 1m between mast and kite head. What's the logic here if I may ask?

It's a mast head rig and the halyard comes out along side the stay so I don't want the kite rubbing on that . It also sets well that way and leaves room for the snuffer which would be rubbing on the mast if it was right up to the mast entry ... remember this is a cruising boat not a racing boat

A friend's spinnaker became detached during a race. Back in the marina he was preparing to hoist his girlfriend up on the spare halyard.
" Um, why is Mary going up?"
"Because the snap shackle let go"
"And you're hoisting her on an identical one? Wouldn't a bowline be safer?"
