do so many people specify light beige or off white carpets on their new boats? If I had to think of the least practical colour to put on a boat then this would be it. I mean dont these people spill the occasional glass of wine or have kids that forget to take their shoes off or own dogs with muddy paws or spread baguette crumbs when they eat
If I was specifying a new boat, I would go for a mottled dog poo coloured carpet that would never show any stains and therefore would never need cleaning

Yes but then surely you would end up with a boat that just looked like mottled dog poo. Which isn't very nice really.

Re: I agree

I have myself specified the mottled dogpoo coloured carpet as in the pic below. INdeed, Ihave gone a little further with red wine-proof seats, and wood which matches nicely milk or biscuits or even sick.

In the cabins, the carpet is a bit more orange and a bit less brownish, again in the dog (or in this case large cat) poo theme, wherby i suppose if someone or dog (or cat) did have some poo on their feet it would have mostly gone by the time the got to the cabins.

I think it's something to do with light and space, white always makes a small roomspace look bigger, .......or have I been watching too many house doctor programmes!

Re: I agree

Yup, a throughly practical if somewhat 'individual' colour scheme. Particularly like the vomit concealing marquetry on the table

Re: Why indeed

but then an even worse taste crime is to specify white/cream leather for the seats!!!!!
Floors/ carpets are for walking on and so get dirty therefore beige/white is NOT a good idea.
Seats are for sitting on and also get dirty why choose cream/white ?

UNLESS it is to go with the hairy chest/gold medallion/well worn blonde.

I do despair of the taste of some people with enough money to specify a new boat, it leaves 2nd and 3rd hand buyers like me cringeing and working out how much it would cost to rip out

Re: Why indeed

Oh a crime indeed doh, why do you make your seats dirty- and why not a live and let live, each to their own. Seats are for sitting on, get dirty and can be cleaned, or would you rather sit on dirty seats that don't show the dirt but are filthy

Re: Why indeed

Thats the point. I've been looking for a new (to me) boat myself and, almost without exception, the boats that I look at have carpets which are light coloured and, as you say, sometimes the seating is too. Do people have houses like that as well?
I know it makes the space look bigger but even after only 2 or 3 seasons, light coloured upholstery can look filthy. I had a Broom once which had foul looking speckled purple carpets and upholstery but it never looked dirty and I sold the boat on still with the original carpets and upholstery at 10yrs old

Re: Why indeed

Phil (of the long and perhaps less than illuminating post <BG>)

As far as sitting in/on dirt goes, I obviously agree.

BUT have you ever had white/cream/beige carpets or white/cream leather to keep clean?
The dirt just gets ingrained and try as you might it never looks shiney/new whereas blue/black/dark green does. I'm not suggesting one leaves them filthy but they do "come up" v much better - no?
