Why the difference

Looking at the Navman 5607 plotter on the web.
Why is one well known dealer selling for £851.06, while another has the exact same package at £549, both include vat.
When I asked the first one he just said, "Just buy it from the other then"
Got any idea why such a price difference? is it just greed?

I don't know anything about plotters, but do you get exactly the same kit from each supplier? Does the more expensive one include a map cartridge/card/whatever they are called and possibly a GPS aerial? It could be that the cheaper one is just the actual unit? Sorry, can't really help!

Look at Navman 5380 from m,,,speed at £399 and Northstar 538e they appear to be identical, w1marine is only £219. its a minefield out there. Free trade or Con trade?

And the £549 price from JG includes UK delivery! Why don't all online chandlers price including delivery? For some, you have to practically give your date of birth and mother's maiden name before they'll tell you how much they charge for delivery.

If it's from a bloke in the far far far North of Scotland that has the cheaper deal (probably from E-bay) he is a delight to deal with. Bought a Navman 8020 and the full works earlier this year - only had a few issues with the chart card which were swiftly sorted out

Electronics prices are all over the place at the moment, manufacturers are climbing over each other in a lot of cases to offer Winter bargains to the dealers.

Even the ones who do include UK delivery (even some who really do include all the UK in that) do not always get the attention we deserve, it is hard work reminding customers that other people may only seem cheaper.

I recently bought a radar set, the one I wanted (new model JRC 10" CRT) was not available in the UK so got it from USA, including delivery and taxes it came to over six hundred pounds less than the nearest equivelent in the UK (Furuno) but in the states the Furno & JRC units are almost the same doller price. Maybe has something to do with sales volume but I think its also that, particularly in the south, prices for sales space and all other costs are so high its hard to be competative with someone paying a quater your rent.

The electrical wholesalers only offer a very small discount to the chandlers,
Wholesalers do have special offers now and again, but if the chandler has already bought in his stock, then reducing it to compete with the big chandler down the road who has extra buying power due to higher volume sales, means he could even lose money on the sale.
It pays to shop around, you might be in the right place at the right time.
I dont know what happens if the unit you buy from America is faulty, but when you buy from a Chandler there is somewhere to go to return the item for a refund or exchange, and someone to fight your corner to get repairs done. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

abt 2 years ago I bought a pair of winches from Alladins Cave. My local chandler said they were cheaper than his wholesaler price.
