That's very elitist! I like to think that some people just can't handle a whole boat so need to buy half of oneI had a similar conversation with my son, aged about 3, in the marina in Burnham on Crouch. He said, ‘Dad, why do some boats only have one hull, when we have 2?’ (Catamaran at that stage). I said ‘Son, some people can only afford half a boat’.
A bike with only on stabiliser would not be easy to ride.Aren't multi hulls chosen to work like stabilisers on kids' bikes?

That’s exactly what we say to people who question our choice. Maybe, when we’ve learned to sail, we can take the stabilisers off. That’s a trimaran.
Please can you post the video when you try this. A Dragonfly central hull without any stabilisers, but perhaps 5 crew on trapezes. That should get a few hits on YouTube. That’s exactly what we say to people who question our choice. Maybe, when we’ve learned to sail, we can take the stabilisers off.
It’s been done, effectively. I know 3 of the skippers quite well. 1990s race series, Laurie Smith, Roger Yeoman, Eddie Warden-Owen, Jonnie Caulcutt, and other rock star sailors of the era. Please can you post the video when you try this. Yes I remember the Ultra 30s - but don’t think anybody has done a Dragonfly monomaran yetIt’s been done, effectively. I know 3 of the skippers quite well. 1990s race series, Laurie Smith, Roger Yeoman, Eddie Warden-Owen, Jonnie Caulcutt, and other rock star sailors of the era.
I’ve always thought the other way around. Build a 29ft cat with the outriggers. But now, I’m thinking both. BOGOF!Yes I remember the Ultra 30s - but don’t think anybody has done a Dragonfly monomaran yet![]()
Don’t these sort of threads belong in ‘the lounge’ with all the other bigotry?
