Why is rain wet?

In Bergen they have about 365 names for rain(366 in a leap year!)

And I bet none of them are quotable here!

Perhaps we should have it dehydrated, so that if we really need rain (for the crops, perhaps) then we only have to add water ...............et voila! rain!

That was one of the first questions my son asked when he was about 3....still makes me grin.
He is still waiting for his answer though (He's 18 now).
