Why do so many boat have Greek names?

Ours is called Paean - physician to the gods. Apparently the commisioning owner was a Doctor. She has had the original name for 52 years and there is no way I would change it.

Greek for Thalassa, greek sea godess... Boat was deliverd just south of Athens to her new owner when new! The guy from Cornish Crabbers that delivered her to me on a lorry remembers taking her out to Greece in 1994 to her first owner.

Thanks Capt, I am trying to get the hand painted Saltash off at the moment with cutting paste and it's hard looooooong work without power! The Greek lettering is still stuck on from new back in 1997! Mind you it's spent most of it's life out of the water under a cover

All right, so my boat has come with Greek name, in fact, Leonora - sunlight, bright one, or such (ελληνικά long forgotten...) - quite popular name in all german nations. The name has some history behind it, so I specially applied in registry here to keep it. And don't ask what's my girls name... :o
