Why do newer boats have IKEA interiors?

I think the use of teak and mahogany for interiors stems from wooden boat days when interiors were damp, decks leaked and the dehumidifier wasn't invented.

There are many new materials and timbers that I would be happy to have used in a modern boat (Corian, oak, cherry).Making it look IKEA is a style choice which fits with "modern living".

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I have loose cushions (great for a snooze), throws (to protect upholstery) and that my teak is sunfaded in places almost to the colour of an IKEA table.

Best of all worlds!

To stop small tools etc., or bigger items of gear, from falling over the edge. You have to stop now and again to look after the boat.
Doesn't work. If that old thief, Neptune wants your tools, he'll just make 'em bounce higher. The bugger stole one of my sail battens last week. I'll need to be at the mooring with bigger tides to see if he's left it lying around.
