Why Are Most Yacht's Covers etc. Blue?

Re: Why Are Most Yacht\'s Covers etc. Blue?

Dark blue is good at not showing stains.

I have a very light beige colour sprayhood. Every little blob of flying Fray Bentos pie that ends up on the sprayhood leaves a stain. Bah!

My gf asked me why most yachts have blue cockpit canopies, blue sail covers and blue UV strips... I have no idea. Why is it? Just because it looks good?

Herd instinct. See my Avatar.

Green is the most robust pigment.

[pedant] acshully it's white, titanium oxide. [/pedant] Or so the paint bloke at Ford told my dad when he worked there.

Personally I think it's because boats are mostly owned by blokes, so the choice of colours is "light" or "dark". "Light" shows up the dirt and "dark" shows up the seagull poo, you pays your money and takes your choice. Black does look nice, but blue is the cheapest "dark" colour. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
