I found this on my side deck today. Not sure what it is but it may have come from aloft. It doesn't seem to match any available spares for the furling headsail gear which seems in order. Anyone recognise it? Thanks.thing1.jpgthing2.jpg

I think it is probably storm Arwen related and may have come from another boat rather than mine but not 100% sure. It doesn't look like any of the parts I used when I fitted the furler a few years ago but I need to eliminate it from my enquiries.

It looks like something designed to be set onto a flat surface. The only flat surface aloft I have is the top of the mast, so I would say that if everything is still there it has come from another boat.

It looks furler related as it has a cut away to allow it to be fed onto the forestay without having to disconnect it. Failing that it is a throb shield off the doubie-twitch. Good luck!

Halyard diverter from the top of your furler? Clamps round the forestay to stop halyard wrap?
I was thinking something similar. The hole in the middle could take an electrical wire but the can normally just push through the hole, unless some sort of special non-removeable connector. The expandable slot made me think of a requirement to pass it over a fitting and a forestay does make sense. However, I've not seen one like the object in the picture and it doesn't look quite right for that task.

I found a split pin on deck years ago and used a zoom lens to check all the fittings aloft. Nothing missing and I finally assumed it was from an adjacent boat. Luckily, I spotted a wobbly gooseneck when I was in the middle of the Bristol channel and trying to beat some bad weather. Then the penny finally dropped. Hugely annoying to find some odd item sitting on deck.

It's part of a Plastimo roller reefing system halyard diverter wheel. You can see it here, although it's white in this picture...

You can see how it attaches on page 14 of the manual...

...and here it is in black with a view of the underside that matches yours...

Not meaning to sound funny but could it be a bit of packing material used to protect something for transport? I've spent time looking at weird stull in the shed only to work out it was packing that I thought too good to throw away cos it might come in useful one day.... The storm or Neighbour could have fecked it there.
