Who's still got a Seafarer 3 echo sounder?

Well i am very pleased to see so many people still keeping with the old tech! It appears you guys are not alone, i have sold the one i had on ebay.

There was lots of interest and bidding, i got just shy of £80 plus delivery but the best bit is the guy who bought it wants to use it on his classic boat and like some of you he prefers the display to the modern LCDs as with less good eyesight it is easier to read!

anyone know how i can join the cable from a Seafarer Transducer to a Garmin 450s .the Garmin has a 6pin male connection for the transducer and the seafarer has a single pin connector or should I just buy another transducer. The old seafarer works perfectly well but not for fishing .

Are you sure that the Seafarer transducer is compatible with a Garmin450s ?

I was the Echo Sounder Operator on one of those, aged about 10, sitting on the companionway steps in my dad's Samphire with my head under the coachroof. The main challenge besides elaborate twiddling of the Gain knob, was keeping a steady nerve entering the Ore or Deben at what seemed like a very low state of tide "so we can see where the sandbanks are" - the pitch of my voice would go up as the depth dropped, 6 feet, 4 feet, 3!!!!

Got one in the garage, does that count? It just sits on the shelf, but it probably works. Two thoughts. One to improve the visibility find the appropriate sized flower pot and cut the base off at the right diameter, then fit over the display. This allows you to put your face over the pot and make it nice and dark. Secondly, I stopped using mine because when sailing in an area that I did not know the depth suddenly deepened up so that the display passed the zero position. Unfortunately I did not spot this, as far as I was concerned one minute we had thirty feet and the next we appeared to have just five! In fact we had plenty something like sixty five feet, but my underwear was not a happy place to be. I got a very sharp note from the laundry!

I was told that it would work as it has a similar range but on investigation I am beginning to doubt this and have decided to buy a six pin in hull transducer which will not be a problem to put in .
