ETIAS is a separate system from the Entry and Exit System,I take one can no longer check out of Schengen from Camaret. Once ETIAS is fully operational might this change?

Like all tidal races and dangerous headlands it is mainly a matter of judging when not to be there. Get it right and you may wonder what all the fuss is about, until you see pictures of that same stretch in a bad mood. Thanks again chaps. The Raz was in a benign mood - went through at slack LW, bit lumpy but nothing more. Carried the tide round to the Isle de Batz and now tied-up in Roscoff. Hadn't planned to stop but couple of issues with the boat, so it'll be a morning spent with a multimeter in one hand and socket set in the other.
Indeed.... I remember chatting to Frank Dye at the London boat show years ago in the Guinness Bar. Apart from being completely mad, he was very switched-on and told me Cape Wrath had almost put him off the sea for life after he went across it in a Wayfarer.Like all tidal races and dangerous headlands it is mainly a matter of judging when not to be there. The pilot books understandably tend to highlight the potential dangers.
