Who will make new bow fittings?

The old one went with the bow. Luckily (or not) I had just taken the mast down so losing the front of the boat only made it repairable by the insurance company. A westerly Konsort dragged it's mooring and hit me.

Searching through mud for fittings ? I have dropped so much into my private channel and never been able to find / recover any ... seems mud has a skill in hiding what it gets !

Argyll fabrications, Dumbarton, does a lot of boat work
 
Well, thanks to zoidberg I am nearly sorted. His fittings will do both my Seawolf and Fulmar (with a bit of alteration). I contacted the firm in Livingston (easy to get to) which ylop mentioned and which looks good - Almond Engineering. So hopefully all will be sorted soon,

In a previous life supplied a lot of material to Almond Eng. You can get to see their fabrication shop a well.
 
Well ... Almond Engineering well out of my price range. Precision engineers! I need rough engineering. Plan now is get bits laser cut and find a welder (I think I have one). But project looks a goer.
 
Thats how I made mine by getting the stainless-steel laser cut and welded. The main time consumer was the polishing the stainless-steel to a high shine

Almond asked about electro polishing. £350 he said - had to send it south.

Never tried hand polishing. I made an anchor fitting for the Dehler after I cracked it on a marina lock and blasted it to make it look like cast aluminium. £100 all in. I will look for YouTube polishing how to's.

Electro polishing does not get the quality of finish that hand polishing can get.

I use angle grinders with various plate flap sanding disc with a final finishing disc.

The final polish is with an electric motor with a polishing pad mounted on the shaft using a polishing soap to get the final polish.

It's a hell of a messy job but well worth it unless you pay someone else who IMHO don't do the same level of quality and cost more
 
Well, I got the bits laser cut and Pentland Tech out at Eskbank welded it up for me. The mistake I made was sending off dxf file the wrong way round, so the polished face is on the bottom of the port side. I will have to look into polishing. Very happy with it - thanks again to zoidberg - and it will push the new Knox anchor well out in front of the boat.

Plenty of You Tube videos on polishing. You will need a 3000rpm sander/polisher, Airway buffing wheels and polishing rouge. Total about £120. You will also need a 14mm to 5/8in adapter to fit the wheels on the polisher. Or post it to me in Devon and I will polish it for you for £50.

And then I wouldn't learn how to do it myself ...
 
I'm really pleased that, between us, we managed to press 'some' of that bow fitting into useful service.
I'm not especially nerdy when it comes to recycling/upcycling/monocycling, but good kit needs a good home.

It may all be usable. The Seawolf is still awaiting finishing off the bow repair (no one told the new staff members that the bow deck had to be flat to accept the fitting) and I have sent the other piece down for alteration. I will report back.
