who was the first forum

Unwittingly Duncan and I found each other using the forum having been working together for about 1 year but not realisign we were fellow forumites!

And then having moved to NZ I met Ships Cat (in those days know as MainlySteam).

i believe that an early meet made ONLY thru the forum (and not having known each other beforehand) was me and Coliholic on his "show me the way to go home" thread. None of his workmates believed i wd turn up, so he spent a lot of the day taking phonecalls and saying "hah! no, he really DID turn up!"

As i recall, he was hitting the prop with a hammer when i arrived. Very sound engineering type, see.

Knew Solitaire from club, but had met him before I started posting here. It's long and distant past, but think first person I actually met via forum was Jon Bailey, when we went on his boat to the original Wareham meet, where I met loads of peeps like BarryH, Aztec, GeoffS, Leyton, NigelB etc etc.

Many years ago, there was a 'who's met who' thread on Mobo, and the numbers were quite limited - I'd dread to list all the forumites I've met now, must be well over a hundred or so, and would probably miss more than a few

Ones I hadn't met before? Dave T_S, who is not reticent at all.
Then Beancounter and Mrs Beancounter.
I knew rallan5 already, but he is a reticent git. Moonshine I also know and Alex Lyne.
Sailorman and Yanita. I have the photos.
A lot more that I recognise and I nearly met Althorne at LIBs this year except I didn't.

Mystery still not answered

I remember that on that famous trip the water tanks were emptied and any excess weight went overboard to make the boat lighter as you were down to one engine.

But what happened to that big box of Mars Bars?

Forbsie, when he made a trip up to darkest Norfolk to buy a boat fridge from a certain young female poster(Titch) who was what she said she was. Then met quite a few others at the first winter Poole meet. Lanason, Col, BarryH, Duncan, Aztec, & Geoffs to name a few.

Bob Egerton at the Christchurch Sailing Club where we arranged to have a beer.
Second was Richard M. at Calshot when I bought a thoroughly sound oven & hob from him & mrs. M. at a most reasonable price - just got to try and keep it in the gimbals in a force 8 now . . .

Incidentally, I've paid for a forum burgee but nothing's arraved as yet. Anyone know what's happening?
