I cannot say I agree as some naval officers can be quite useful, as can be bicycles - here of course we use umbrellas to keep the sun off

I'd happily go to sea with an umbrella and have done so, motoring down the Caledonian canal in a flat calm and torrential rain, a lot more useful that a naval officer in such circumstances.

For the ultimate in useless items on a boat try a pool table.

If I could afford a yacht big enough to have a pool table it would have a computer controlled gimballed floor.
