With my present boat, I paid for my survey, two actually - one professionally by a local surveyor and by my then neighbour who had only just completed a boat surveying course(as part of a redundancy package which was paid for by his employer - he never actually became a surveyor as the redundancy was withdrawn and he's still working for them ten yrs later!)
On top of that, the broker showed me the survey who a previous potential buyer had commissioned. My two surveys were remarkably similar with my neighbours report had excellent photos included.
I based my offer on the brokers survey which was quite damning, and put in a silly offer which was accepted. The boat is still going strong.
