Pardon my ignorance, but yesterday on our way back from Southwold we picked up an Urgent Navigation warning. It concerned a 1 mile exclusion zone, and if I wrote down the Lat Long correctly, it was in the middle of the Dover Strait, the originator said it was - I think - COLMAR.

Google just gives a town in France and other non maritime things.

Just curious but would like to know.

I believe the Comar is the guard ship for works off Bawdsey in connection with windfall cable laying. They have been warning yachts away from the 1km long floating conduit they have been towing out there near a Jack up barge. Check your lat\long :)

The guard boat off Bawdsey on Tuesday was the Celtic Guardian. I know because she called me.
I may have misheard the name in the Securite message it could well have been Calmar.

Entirely possible, I may have written the Lat Long down incorrectly, noisy engines plus increasing deafness make it difficult at times!! If she was operating close to Bawdsey I did not see her though, only the guard boat Celtic Guardian.

I have found my notebook with the Lat Long and vessel name. I wrote down CALMAR, and the Lat Long when checked again puts the exclusion zone out to sea off Orford somewhere, I misremembered the name and I misplaced a digit in the Latitude when I checked the position on my Navionics phone app. :apologetic:
