Whither the whole yacht market

Given the price of new boats the price of used boats should be supported. The economy feels awful but you sell your boat at your peril.

If you can afford to keep your boat then now is not the time to sell - but for boat owners reaching the end of their fixed-rate mortgages and struggling with higher energy prices, those marina fees are looking like a very obvious cost saving.

Acquaintance of many years decided, enough was enough, and had the cojones to do something about it. Time to sell.
Absolute peach of a boat having more money and time devoted to its perfection than than actual use.
Fairly rare good quality gentlemens craft , ideal for its location.
Broker approached who suggested a price, owner considered it bit over the top and asked for it to be marketed for a little less.
Wanted it gone end of.
Offer very close to asking received less than a week later, all money in the bank few days later.
The market is still achieving decent money for the right boat and cash is still king out there despite the gloom.

Boatyards are full of shrines to the past quietly going green and losing value by the day.
If a car is redundant, its on the market, why do folks hang on to boats until the absolute bitter end :)

I guess that for a lot of boat owners their boat is part of who they are; whereas a car is just a means of getting from A to B.

Agree, for me a car is the antithesis of a boat. One gives me freedom to do the things I want to do and the other enables me to do the things I have to do.
I create dreams in the car, I live them on a boat.

Don't tell my Morgan that. My A and B are almost always the same - home - and it is the bit in between that gives the pleasure. Just like much of sailing

Actually, I’m also a car enthusiast who doesn’t see all cars merely as useful tools.

Plus, I did do the sensible thing of selling my last boat when I realised that I had crossed a line between enjoyment and curation of a little-used treasure.

But now I find myself looking at boats again and dreaming. Perhaps there isn’t a cure…
