White Marine Diesel

A compelling argument, but nowhere near true.

Current prices according to https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/

France €1.52, Greece 1.48, Italy 1.57. In the Greek islands this year we were paying €1.60. Current UK seems to vary between £1.30 and £1.40. Locally around £1.33 at supermarkets and cheap outlets, around £1.36 at major stations.

You're quite right now, but it was true at the time. I'm arguing that we should have changed over to white when everyone else did. The point made at the time of the introduction of a special 60/40 split and so for keeping red diesel was that our road fuel was priced much higher than that of our neighbours.

It was true then, but you and Vyv are quite correct - thank you both for pointing it out - that this difference has largely evaporated since. For two reasons I guess: the scrapping of the UK fuel price escalator and the reduction of the value of the pound which has increased the price of continental fuel to us. All the more reason to get rid of the red imho: I'm not moaning about the beastly EU, on the contrary I think the UK has scored an own-goal.

PS: It's only largely evaporated: according to the link Vyv posted, diesel in the UK is still near the top of the league.
