White Heather\'s own website

Whilst I am promoting Pete Goss's website I suppose I may as well promote my own.

I have recently moved my website for my Manx Herring Lugger 'White Heather' to a new server. Its been ages since it was updated due to the uncertainly over moving it.

I have posted lots of new material in the past few weeks and have a little more yet to send up.

The site acts as a repository for all the historic information I have discovered about her, together with my restoration of her old bones and what she is up to from year to year.

Obviously I am biassed but I think its an interesting site and am promoting it here for those of you who are interested.

White Heather

Its always nice to get feedback on both the site and the boat herself so dont hold back...

Phew - you've certainly put some blood sweat and tears into that restoration, well done, hope you're enjoying her now.

Respect !!

Re: White Heather\'s own website

Hi everyone. Thanks for your kind comments on the site. Having the site is a great way to archive infomation safely relating to the boat. I end up losing scraps of paper amd photos and such.

Warren - its about time you got an up to date website sorted out - Swn Y Mor's story is so much more adventurous than my own and lots of people who subscribe to these forums would be interested. I will change the link on my links page to point to the new site, I could never properly view the old one as I use firefox as a browser.

Re: White Heather\'s own website

Hi,
It's wonderfull to see White Heather again. I grew up in Portaferry and regularly saw her on the Lough. In fact I used to sail with the Tighe girls out of Seaboard in Killyleagh.
I was particularly moved to see the picture of White Heather and Connaught together. I made the passage to Belfast, 2 years previous to her fateful journey and I remember Con asking around the club at Portaferry the night before He and Audrey set off. I remember I considered going...........

Great site, I'll follow it with interest.

This is Helen, but yes, you're right. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And yeah, I know, I never managed to get the diary bit to work in Firefox (which is my browser too. It'll be a while before the historical stuff is up, because I've got to scan lots of documents!)

Hi Helen

Its hard work to get started and get the bulk of the material in but once done its no big deal and as I mentioned in my leading post, its a great way to archive all the bits and pieces.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to watching all the material gradually building up.

I just spent the last half an hour looking at your website, what an amazing story to tell.

As an engineer I am in awe of your achievements and dedication. White Heather was lucky to have found you.

Re: White Heather\'s own website

Neddie, its good to hear from you again. Mrs Seagoon would of course be absolutely welcome to come aboard next time. I cant locate your contact details old chap so if you wouldnt mind letting me have them again please?

P4Paul - to be honest it doesnt feel like any kind of achievment, I took pleasure in the work, was lucky to have the fates drop into my lap a situation where I had space and facilities to carry out the work and I just plugged away at it, it didn't feel like a hardship.

One of the things that kept me going was limiting each package of work to an element that could be completed over a winter, leaving me the summer to sail her and re-charge the batteries as it were.

I think both I and she were lucky really, as they say 'the timing was everything'.

I should also say here of course that loads and loads of people helped me, giving materials or time or people such as my ex wife allowing me to spend all our money on WH....
