whitby to whitstable

Your destination is a problem. Whitstable is a working harbour, not geared up for yachts at all, emergencies only.
You could instead anchor off the YC just W of the harbour, or maybe find a spare mooring there. OK in quiet weather but it's very exposed there from the N and can have one heck of a chop.
Perhaps the Medway would be a better target?

I think it was meant as an allitoration Dick, rather than Whitby to Benfleet, which doesn't scan.

OP: Main problem is the yawning gap past the Wash. You can day hop from Wells Next the Sea.

Oh, maybe I was being even dimmer than usual.
In Ramsgate this year, woke to find overnight arrival next door. Where from, said I as he surfaced mid morning. Whitby, he said. Singlehanded. Suddenly felt inadequate.

Whitby to Holland

Whilst at a lovely Dutch harbour in the Osterscheld (Burgh Sluis) on a visitor pontoon, another little English tradional old boat was put alongside. Imagine our surprise when this delightful lady in her early 60's told how she had single handed the classic Virtue across the N.sea........!!!! :):)
