I have 7 days to play with over whit week. I'm weighing up between a Falmouth to Exmouth cruise, or spending the week in the Bristol Channel - launching at Burry Port. My boat is a Cape Cutter 19 and will take the ground. Assuming I do the latter, where would you sail to if you were me?

Good Luck wherever you go.

From Burry Port a few hours sail will take you to Tenby where you could dry out in the harbour or anchor in the lee of Caldy Island.

A short days sail from there would put you in Milford Haven. In Dale you could dry out on the beach, anchor or moor to a floating pontoon. The Griffin Pub ashore does good food and beer.

From there you could either go into the haven and explore the upper reaches or go out and anchor /moor at North or South Haven on Scomer Island. The area is likely to be alive with Dolphins that time of year. Basking sharks are quite common .Sun fish are occasionally seen. Seals will most likely be seen around the Islands.Solva is a drying cove an easy Day sail to the North.

If the weather is not good I would consider launching at Lawrenny Quay in the sheltered upper reaches of Milford
Haven from there you could easilly spend a week exploring the area without ever leaving sheltered waters. Personally I would prefer to launch at Lwrenny regardless of the weather. Slip is quite wide and not too steep.

Weather is too variable and unpleasant at the moment to recommend the Bristol channel which is open to the west and southwest. Try the south coast which is far more sheltered

Falmouth wins every time for me - you can loose a week exlporing the river and the Bay offers great day sailing when the weathers on side.

I think the recent article in PBO sum's up Bristol Channel cruising in small sailing boats very well especially given the variable weather just now!
